Doing health and safety courses made me realise where I had knowledge gaps. When representing members I was finding I had questions regarding disabilities, that I couldnt answer myself. So to the learning... The course is excellent and raising my awareness with each activity. I think it should be compulsroy for TU reps, or at the very least equality officers

Coventry - Julian Allam, Royal Mail Unite
I live in Coventry and Jayne and I have two sons aged 6 (Laurence) & 4 (Lucas). I have been an Area Health & Safety Rep since 1986, I have also covered various other roles within the branch such as Branch Secretary, Chairman and Function Rep.
As a result of an accident at work I have been left with a disability, this I think has given me a different perspective on the day to day problems that are faced not only in the workplace but at home.
I am committed to raise the profile of disabled workers not only within my workplace but throughout the midlands area and if I was selected to be trained as a Disability Champion, it would enable me to tap into a network of experience and information that I greatly need to enable me to reach and go beyond the targets I have set for myself.
Dudley - Lynne Evans Unison
I found this role by visiting the TUC website when searching for courses/training
and signed up to help support, assist and advise those that are having difficulties in the workplace and need specialist advice in relation to Disability issues. I am passionate about the rights of disabled people and the lack of awareness needs to be corrected. I am looking forward to learning and meeting like minded colleagues.

We are regularly contacted by members who are affected by ill health or disabilities and I wanted to improve my knowledge of the issues affecting them. I was very impressed with the course and now ant to put this knowledge to work for our members benefit.
