Blaina - Julian Price Unison
I found out about the course on the union learn webiste. I work with staff and clients with disabilities and would like to know more about how to solve issues that relate to them . The course is very well structured and has good feedback from the tutor

Bridgend - Anne Mainwaring Unite
Growing up with family members who have physical and learning disabilities has given me an insight into the prejudices and physical difficulties they have to cope with on a daily basis. After a few years of dental nursing it seemed natural to become involved in Special Care, and I have been recently promoted to senior Special Care nurse. My responsibilities are to develop communication in our clinics I am in the process of liaising with the speech and language department to use visual aids, and the institute of the blind to provide braille dental instructions.

Cardiff - Ann Bellringer Unison
Hello Dave, I have been a member of Nalgo Unison for 19 years been an steward for 14 years I am the branch Disabled Members officer and Women's Officer. I have attended disabled members conference in Glasgow 2004 and will be attending this year I am protected under the DDA as I have long term problems with my hip I have been awarded access to work to provide equipment in work. I have had two recent cases representing disabled members which we won.

Cardiff - Sharon Chapman Unison
I am Disability Officer in our Branch, and thought the course looked as if it would be extremely useful in helping expand knowledge and help me support the disabled members within our Branch. The course is perfect for those who have difficulty with working full days,my problem is that I get very tired by the afternoon and need to rest- but am up early in the morning with nothing to do. E-learning is perfect for me - but have not done any real studying in year - so am a bit apprehensive of what is to come.

Cardiff - Colin Elcome CWU

Cardiff - Julie Irish Unison
Julie Irish I have been a trade union Steward and activist for some 13 years in Cardiff County Council UNISON branch. We are a strong branch of around 3600 members. For the last four years I have been Deputy Branch Secretary and last year I was also the branch
Disabled Member’s Officer. I stood down last October as I have taken a year off work to look after my little boy.

During this period I have also completed a master’s degree and have just graduated from Reading University with an MSc in Inclusive Environments, in short, the design and management of the built environment to include everyone, particularly disabled people. The course covered aspects such as Disability and Access Legislation, Transport, Housing, Assistive Technology and Inclusive Design.

I have also undertaken a number of Access Audits on various properties. My profession is an interior designer, working with architects and engineers in the design and refurbishment of existing and new buildings. In particular I have worked on a variety of projects to make the Council’s building stock more accessible to everyone.

I became a Disability Champions because I have a disabled partner and we have a lot of people with a disabilities ranging from asthma to cervical spondylosis. I want all people with disabilities to be treated fairly within any workplace.

Portmadog - Sue Barker USDAW
I found out about the course via the TUC web site. I feel the Tesco management have so little knowledge about the DDA that the only way I could be sure that my members get a fair deal was to get more knowledge myself.
