Creating an Intranet

NB: This activity can only be completed by students attending the St James Street Centre, if you are a distance learner please skip this and go straight to Task 8

As you will have seen in task 5 you can create links to any other file on your course disk. In this activity we will use the shared drive on the network to allow us to create links to oneanother's files - this is where the fun starts!!

It is very important that you give your file a unique name before copying it to the I:\ drive: if you all copy a file called task1.htm each one will overwrite the previous one leaving only one file. To avoid this happening include your initials in the filename. The best way is to:-

  1. Insert your floppy disk
  2. Open Task 1 in EditPlus
  3. Choose File + Save As
  4. Change the Save In box to INTRANET on TUCIT8 (I:)
  5. Include your initials in the File Name eg: drp1.htm
You can now make links to other files on the I:\ drive and see what everyone else has been up to.
