OBJECTIVE To produce a recruitment poster for your union. In the constant fight to restore trade union membership a command of desktop publishing can be a powerful weapon in your arsenal. Successful organising campaigns are planned and co-ordinated. Your union will be able to provide a range of posters and material but it is always good to be able to produce your own which are not only specific to your union, but also to your workplace or the specific group of people you are targeting.
Posters should catch the eye and convey the bulk of the message quickly. Avoid over cluttering a poster with lots of information. If you have a lot of ideas, consider producing a series of posters with the same theme. Think about the poster adverts you see around the city; they have a large picture or graphic, a main headline and then additional information which you may not read the first time you see it. This is intended to make you look out for the poster again to find out what you’ve missed – clever eh!
